Each year at Easter, we celebrate the Risen Christ with an all evening vigil & party, appropriately called “RISE.”
What to expect: beautiful, family-friendly worship (with Baptisms), a communal dinner, as well as live music and dancing.
All are welcome to join us for any and all portions of the evening. If you have ever wanted to invite family or friends to a COTA Event - this would be it!
THIS YEAR’S THEME
"OH MY STARS"
is inspired by various readings appointed for Easter, in which God calls us to consider the splendor of the sun, moon, and stars.
You are invited to come dressed in costume.
"If you have been risen with Christ, seek the things that are above."
- Colossians 1:3
"Those who are wise shall shine like the brightness of the sky, and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars forever and ever."
- Daniel 12:3
"The moon and the stars to govern the night,* for God's mercy endures for ever."
- Psalm 136:9
FIRST THINGS FIRST: HOLY WEEK SCHEDULE
MAUNDY THURSDAY, 7PM
MAUNDY THURSDAY marks the beginning of the three days. At this service we reflect on Jesus' last supper in the upper room and the command (in latin: mandatum) to love one another. There will be an optional foot washing as we enter the space, a mini garden of Gethsemane, and tables set up for a shared meal together. At the close of the meal we end with the reading of the psalm and we strip the space of all decoration in preparation for Good Friday. We depart in silence.
GOOD FRIDAY, 7PM
At the service of GOOD FRIDAY, which was called "the triumph of the cross" in the early church, we remember the death of God on the cross in Jesus and the radical new understanding of what Godness is about. The church gathers not to mourn this day but to celebrate Christ's life - giving passion and to find strength and hope in the tree of life. In the ancient bidding prayer we offer petitions for all the world for whom Christ died.
