FYI, Quest is different that the 'Quest - A Church Community' that's located on the Eastside. They are way cooler. He also serves as staff for Quest Community Development, a sister organization of Quest, that's focused on serving the community.  ¶ He's gone to school here and there; every now and then gets to speak to people about the vision in his heart; is currently growing out his hair; loves music, especially jazz; loves convertibles; and promises you to a free cup of coffee at their new coffee shop this fall...

Brett Porter
Seattle, Washington
seattlebrett@msn.com
Pastor : Thrill Seeker : Priest - Plagued with the questions " What is a lifetime and why do I live it?"; "What is church?"; "What is a pastor?", Brett engaged in a divinely led journey from the sunny beaches of California to the overcast beauty of Seattle. While here, he received his MDiv. from Western Seminary Seattle in Dec. 2000. In the midst of his studies came the necessity to say good bye to his familiar world of business to earn a living and say hello to a life on the waters of faith and trust in the Lord to provide for he and his family as he is now living his calling as a pastor. The irony of his call came in the realization that he does not fit in the current institutional church program. ¶ Brett's desire is to change your hermeneutic and do it subversively. His desire, too, is to walk with people towards the freedom of the terrifying and peace-filled gospel of Christ. This gospel will set us in the tension of hope that compels us to continue on, while it offers us the blessing of living in the suffering and disappointment of our human condition. This hope is the inseparable companion of faith in the One who goes before all things. ¶ His dream is to poetically provide the way of God into the hearts of those who are existing in quiet desperation and long for their souls to be ignited to life, to freedom, to passion, and all to the glory of God. ¶ Brett still lives in Seattle with his wife Jennifer and their two sons Carlton and Elliot. They enjoy music, the beach, laughing, food, drag racing and teaching their sons the finer points of Pink Floyd. Come winter time you'll find them on the slopes.

Neil Tibbott

Edmonds, Washington [missio & crm]

ntibbott@crmnet.org

Neil and Margaret live in Edmonds, Washington with their four kids, furry dog and nasty little hamster with a biting problem.  They seek to live in community with an extended family of relationships in their neighborhood and beyond.  They describe their community life as experimentation in a “simple church” that may or may not be good for anyone including themselves.  Thankfully they’re not alone.  Missio is an international network of experimenters that finds meaning in practicing missional habits and providing onramps for co-subversives.  They also are not alone in Seattle where experimentation is alive and well.  Neil is currently piloting a project called StreetGospel to discuss ways for the church to permeate the neighborhoods of our cities.  Jump in the discussions if you like…  no biting allowed.

Karen Ward
Seattle, Washington [
church of the apostles]

seattlerev@yahoo.com

karen enjoys tracking what god is doing in the emerging culture and church. karen also likes slacking with friends, geeking with apple computers, film, writing, and listening to kuhl music. ¶ karen spends much time "gardening" as the pastor and planter of church of the apostles, seattle (in formation as of june 15, 2002). karen wants to assist god, as god grows cota into an organic missional community, rooted in the way of christ, at home in today's culture, and attuned to the spirituality of postmodern generations. ¶ karen watches god on her blog deepdirt. she webmasters a "basic training portal" for postmodern ministry called emergingchurch. karen is a member of eln (a network for x gen and missional lutheran leaders) and is a senior fellow with emergent village. ¶ karen loves networking and shooting the theological breeze about church and world over a coffee, microbrew or bubble tea. any takers?
